Wikipedia:WikiProject Philadelphia/Wikipedia Takes Philadelphia 1

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This box coordinates the level of organization of meetup events in the Northeast US.

Wikimedia New York City officially serves communities in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania. Local committees and/or new chapters across the Northeast are also anticipated in future.

Wikipedia Takes Philadelphia was a photo scavenger hunt and free content photography contest held all around Philadelphia aimed at illustrating Wikipedia articles.

We sought contributions to our list of targets and will soon delete those from this list which were taken at the event.

Wiki Takes Philadelphia was co-sponsored by Techserv at Drexel University.

It occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2009, the check-in location will was the Drexel University quad (between Chestnut and Market, 33rd and 32nd) at noon, and the ending party and photo uploading occurred at University Crossings at 6 PM. All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians were invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). The event was modeled after Wikipedia Takes Manhattan 1 and two.

This was the fifth event of its kind on the Wikipedia Takes The City model (the first and third were in NYC, the second was in Nashville, and the fourth was in Berlin).

The first prize winning team members received Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr.

Images will be uploaded through our drop.io-donated dropbox.

The number of pictures taken and articles illustrated are still being tablulated. Early indications are that we did extremely well.
