Next backlog drive

[edit]

Howdy folks.

Looking at the article backlog graph, I think we need to have 3–4 article only backlog drives a year to maintain our current backlog levels and prevent major backlog growth. 4 backlog drives a year is too many for burnout reasons. So I think we should consider 3 backlog drives a year that focus on articles only (no redirects). That's a cadence of one every 4 months. Our last one was in January, so that would mean we should look into doing another backlog drive in May.

Thoughts on this? Shall we move forward, or do we need to adjust the details? Thanks. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:10, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Novem and I have been discussing this and I'm comfortable running 3 drives a year. We agree that the focus should be on articles over redirects. With that said, I would prefer to have at least one of the drives be mixed, with a lower weight provided to redirects (.2 pts each) than our last mixed drive (0.25). Since the backlog seems to be a recurring problem, I was wondering if maybe it'd be easier to organize a monthly/quarterly recognition barnstar based off database reports instead of constantly organizing backlog drives? That way people are still being recognized on a regular basis for their hard work keeping the backlog down (and it's more frequent than the yearly awards). It also encourages people to do what they can, when they can, somewhat frequently. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 21:37, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Coordination#Recognition for consistent reviewing. -Kj cheetham (talk) 22:16, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, sending out a batch of barnstars for consistent reviewing has never resulted in a 6,000 article drop in the backlog graph like a backlog drive does. I still like sending out barnstars since it probably creates some motivation and staves off burnout a little, but it does not seem to be in the same league as backlog drives. –Novem Linguae (talk) 03:54, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I like the idea of backlog drives as it helps to keep me focused on this during the period. 3 or 4 a year sound great, perhaps with a special barnstar for people who edit the older articles in the backlog, such as anything older than 3 or 4 months? I just did a check and we have 312 articles from December 1, 2023 and older. Perhaps those are more complicated ones, and it would be nice to clear them out also. Points

[edit]

I propose awarding 1 point per review. – DreamRimmer (talk) 04:11, 6 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @Novem Linguae, @Hey man im josh, @Clovermoss, @Kj cheetham and @FULBERT. – DreamRimmer (talk) 08:38, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is the May one going to be articles-only, no redirects? If so, I'd happily support a simple 1 point per review. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:38, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Would autopatrolled AfC reviews be counted in this drive because I remembered from last time this wasn't the case. I know it may be hard to calculate but if not too hard it would be appreciated. — GMH Melbourne (talk) 01:06, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry @GMH Melbourne, we will not be working to incorporate these in the tally, it's just too hard to try to track. Hey man im josh (talk) 03:28, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, I understand. GMH Melbourne (talk) 03:39, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How does the bot work?

[edit]

Hello reviewers! I was just wondering if the bot provides a constant update or if it only works when someone runs it? Thanks! —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 00:20, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Asparagusus, the bot updates the leaderboard hourly. – DreamRimmer (talk) 10:20, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question re admins and CSD

[edit]

Do admins participating in the drive get points for speedy deletion of pages without a tag (which non-admins would tag)? I can envision this in several cases, such as obvious G1/G2/G3/G10/G12 where placing a tag would be an unnecessary added step, and cleaning up G5 candidates created by already-blocked socks. To be clear, I'm asking about outright deletion, not merely processing CSD tags placed by other reviewers. Complex/Rational 18:57, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

So, this was actually a problem I ran into in our last drive because it was the first time I wasn't adding to my CSD log. It's something that's difficult to track since we don't have CSD logs and, if you're like me, you'll have processed a number of other CSD tags in the mean time, making it more of a pain to look through the deleted logs to see which ones were tagged before the deletion and what ones were not. With that said, I'm willing to operate on the principle of good faith if an admin wants to subject a number at the end of the drive. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:30, 1 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For the duration of this drive, I used Twinkle exclusively for direct deletion of unpatrolled pages, and the ordinary delete button for everything else. I would like 13 such deletions added to my drive total (12 G5s, 1 G12) [1]. Perhaps such a system could also set a precedent for future drives? Thanks, Complex/Rational 03:08, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

can someone mark TG Sokół Sokołów Małopolski as patrolled for some reason I can, I get the following message:

Hi TheTechie. Just want to give a quick ping on Connecteam, I have nominated it for deletion as I don't believe the sources available meet guidelines for notability, when considering the detailed criteria at WP:ORGCRIT. More specifically, the available coverage seems to fall largely within what is specified under WP:ORGTRIV (not that that's an exaustive list). The re-review instructions say that I'm supposed to raise it here. Please let me know if you have any concerns. Alpha3031 (tc) 13:48, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Understood, I probably missed adding the notability template. Thanks for the ping. thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 03:02, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion logs

[edit]

Please make sure to post if you have deletion logs that need to be accounted for. Reasons for this would typically include manually tagging pages and using Twinkle to tag pages instead of the page curation bar. Hey man im josh (talk) 12:02, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
