Hello sir/maam I am a new user here in wikipedia so i cannot edit protected articles like Angel locsin, i am only just concern of the article because it has no image. I am calmly requesting you to Put this image Angel_in_Dubai.jpg click here to see the image, the image was already proven licensed under creative commons and it was already inspected by Flickreviewer, please put it inside Angel Locsin's article with the caption of Angel Locsin at the Lobo Tour in Dubai. Please give me your kindness. Thankyou so much. God Bless You! Watcher Wiki (talk) 10:30, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot III

How come there's so much older stuff on my talk page that isn't being archived? Is it because of the dates being absent from those edits? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 01:16, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. To be precise, either absent or invalid ("12.06.2008 11:03" is not a valid timestamp). Миша13 17:58, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Misza,

on deWP, there is a way to get an archiving bot to work only after a specific section was approved for archiving by {{Erledigt|~~~~}} (means {{done|~~~~}} or {{outdated|~~~~}}) -- is there something similar in Commons, or could you "tweak" Miszabot in a similar way? TX, --WeHaWoe (talk) 04:22, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a planned feature but not yet implemented. Миша13 17:59, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PW newsletter

Hey Misza, the next issue of WikiProject:Professional wrestling's newseltter is ready to be released. Thanks in advance. Also, I'm not sure if you read the newsletter before you send it out, but if you don't normally you might want to check out "From the editors." -- iMatthew T.C. 00:37, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Username block

Did you have a reason to block User:Gibappppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp? You gave no reason except {{UsernameBlocked}}, and that refers to a username policy that doesn't include a reason to block this name.

If you just took the name as an indication that the user was going to vandalize:

  • Such indications have not always turned out to be true, and WP:AGF applies to all of Wikipedia's users.
  • If the user were an actual vandal, you could have waited for actual evidence and hardblocked him for vandalism instead of allowing him to simply vandalize under a less conspicuous name.

Please explain. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 06:47, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I blocked it per the usual reason of being "...an unnecessarily confusing, consisting of random and/or repetetive letters...'" (or something to that effect), a long-standing example of disruption listed on WP:U. I was always a good reason and if that was changed for some awkward reasons, I certainly haven't been informed. Also, the blocking template provides the blocked user with enough information as to why he was blocked, how to request unblocking, username change or simply create a new account. Leaving any additional messages on their talk page is a major waste of time given that most (I could pull actual figures if you wish) of the created accounts never edit (thus, it's just as optimal to defer additional interaction until they are willing to edit). Миша13 18:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if they never edit, you accomplish nothing by blocking them. You'd only have a reason to block them if you believed they were going to edit, and that their edits would be negative. You may think that's a reasonable conclusion to draw from 39 p's in a row, but I've taken the time to watch such users and found that it isn't -- their edits are sometimes positive and sometimes negative, and as a whole they're similar to IP users.
WP:U dropped the text you're referring to months ago, and the "awkward reason" is that the rule was sometimes causing good-faith users to be blocked, while not benefiting Wikipedia in any tangible way. The change was discussed on WT:U, WT:UAA, and WP:AN. It's okay that you weren't aware of this -- just don't make a habit of it, please. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 02:11, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I couldn't reasonably expect such change to take place and neither was I informed of it. But then again, given that username blocks are no longer the main scope of my bot, I couldn't care less. Миша13 17:40, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User Talk page archive mistake?

Hey Misza13, I just set up my User Talk page to be archived by MiszaBot III. However, a few old sections got skipped -- check out the edit summary here. Any idea why? Thanks! Jpers36 (talk) 16:18, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sections with missing, invalid and nonstandard timestamps are ignored. You'll have to either correct them or archive manually. Миша13 19:07, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How to operate a bot?

I want to know what to do if I want to operate a bot. Do I have to make anotehr username say like X"Bot"? If nt what I have to do.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 21:44, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Um, creating a username for the bot is the least of your concerns, probably. You first should ask yourself why do you want to run it, what shall it do and how. Unless you want to operate an already existing bot, you'll also need to do some programming (or even quite a lot of it). Миша13 22:08, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikinews importer bot for wikinews

I know this sounds like a stupid request at first sight...but anyways. Is there any chance of setting up the wikinews Importer bot to import wikinews into wikinews. This would be for the eventual creation of A WAP portal (like wikipedia's) for wikinews. Since the wap portal thingy does not support DPL's, categories, or templates - we essentially need a static version of a Dynamic page list of last published (Wikipedia uses a search box, but people don't search new sites), which made me think of you and your bot. The wikinews discussion about this is located at n:Wikinews:Water cooler/technical#Wikinews wap (mobile phone) portal. Sincerely, Bawolff (talk) 16:46, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Odd, but I don't see why not. I'd just tweak the bot to be able to work with any wiki family as the destination. Signal me when you decide on all the wheres and whats and I'll set it up. However: the destination page must include a template (like User:Wikinews Importer Bot/config here on Wikipedia), so if they simply do not display in the WAP interface, it's fine. But if they display some rubbish, things might get tricky. Миша13 19:22, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
templates just don't display, so thats all good. I've started a a bot request on wikinews. Sine your operating the bot, you might want to give it a once over to make sure I haven't accidentally put any words in your mouth :). I assume that people will say there preferences for page names and such on this request (or if they don't, I'll just make them up). Once everything is all sorted out, I'll send you a message. Thanks. Bawolff (talk) 20:46, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sock to throw back into the drawer?

Hey Misza. Wikieditor222 was the original name of User:SexySeaClownfish, a checkuser-verified sockpuppet of User:I'm On Base. Wikieditor222 just created his account yesterday, and i was waiting for someone I knew (well this is a stretch, I once left you a message on the test Wiki talk page). Can you block him? Shapiros10 contact meMy work 23:02, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

How do you know it's the same person? Maybe it's just a coincidence that someone registered an account whose name was freed some month ago? Миша13 16:12, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
because I had experience with him, and the editor was very disruptive. You know, getting one of these and asking the guy who templated him, "can I make you a sig?" I'll watch his contribs over the past few days. if the same disruptive behavior comes back, may I contact you? Shapiros10 contact meMy work 19:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

To run bot

To run a bot do I go to my setting or I have to make another account. I know what I want it to do, and I don't want extra accounts.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 01:17, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On my setting I don't see any channel letting me to run a bot.--Freewayguy Call? Fish 01:18, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, but now I don't understand a thing what you're saying. Bots are run on separate accounts. What "Setting"? What "channel"? Миша13 16:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Archive Bot Manual run

Hi there, It will be gr8 if you could set up your Archive bot to have a web form ( for anybody to manually run for selected pages ) something like this as for WP1.0 Bot . -- TinuCherian (Chat?) - 08:56, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request noted. But really, once per day is not enough? (On some pages, like AN, AN/I it even runs every 6 hours.) Миша13 16:15, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot II double-archiving

Hi. Take a look at the history of Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive153. The archives done at 06:35 UTC on July 6 ([1][2]) and July 10 ([3][4]) were both done twice. As a result, the archive contains two copies of the sections that were archived on those occasions. —Wknight94 (talk) 11:51, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive152's history shows one occurrence of the same behavior - June 30, again at 06:35 UTC. —Wknight94 (talk) 11:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is a rare (or maybe not so rare) occurence where the bot hits an edit conflict when saving the main page. I bet that you wouldn't find removal edits corresponding to those that you mention. This is because the pywikipedia framework doesn't yet have components for easily reverting one's edits - that's why the bot first saves the archives and then the main page - this way the content may get occasionally doubled but rather not lost. Миша13 16:18, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:Economics/Archive

Thank you, Misza13, for your recent efforts on the above. Not all the social and natural science articles are similarly fortunate in complete archiving.

I do have a difficulty with the most recent such Archive for Talk:Economics, which links to your user name as the contributor:

01:05, 30 June 2008 MiszaBot I (Talk | contribs) m (17,833 bytes) (Archiving 2 thread(s) (older than 30d) to Talk:Economics/Archive 11.)

As you can verify, there are only 2 sections there, corresponding to all sections with no comments in the last 30 days. The previous such Archives went into Talk:Economics/Archive 10 from May 2007 to May 2008. It now has 67 sections. The disproportion in the number of sections of the Archives (2 vs. 67) I believe is a problem. A concscientious Editor I believe should not have to check more than one Archive + the current Talk page to get a sense of what has been discussed in the recent history of the article.

I would propose that Archive 11 be merged to 10 & that further month-without-comment archiving stop for a year, to allow for more than a "30-cay eemory" of the curent Talk page. Reasons: Archive 10 was a period of 50% growth of the article size & corresponding Talk discussion of new material, The article is very large, limiting likely future growth. The number of Talk sections is therefore likely to be smaller in the next year compared to the last year. Discussions on the current Talk are a check on careless Edits that slow improvement of the article.

You are a very busy Wikipedian, but would you consider sharing yoir thoughts on this? My thanks. (I'd look for your reply here (unless you prefer to reply at my dump of a Talk page.) --Thomasmeeks (talk) 18:56, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I fully understand your problem. Of course the current archive (#11) is small - it's because it was just started. When it fills up, the bot will move to the next one. When it moves is configurable by the maxarchivesize option. What is the archive criterion (i.e. thread age) is controlled by the algo parameter - simply adjust it if you want the threads to linger on the discussion page. Anyway, by default at least 5 will be left (minthreadsleft). All this is explained in the how-to.
If you want to merge/whatever the archives, just do it (you can copy/paste text around too). The archive destination (the current number) is stored in the counter variable. You really don't need my intervention to change anything as everything is configurable. Миша13 23:00, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I appreciate your responding, including the technical help. Your point about allowing Archive 11 to fill up does clarify. Still, it seems to me that a more direct solution wouuld be to allow the current Talk page to fill up instead.* On your last point, would it be correct to infer that you would not object to my following through on the above proposal to allow the currect Talk page to "fill up"? Again, thank for your assistance.
* If that is opaque, I hope that you would not mind my elaborating here. It is not just that the Archive 11 is small (which it is). It is that Arhive 10 is large and tht the current Talk:Economics is also small. I don't see why someone interested in that Talk page should have to go to one very small Archive to find out that it is very small or why the interested reader should have to go to a 2nd Archive to get a broader sampling of what was earlier discussed. I have gone to the listed physical and social science Talk pages. The most recent archive is not in (almost?) any case so tiny. That's b/c those Talk pages were allowed to "fill up" before archiving. 6 months from now such an Econ archive would be fuller. But I don't see why the interested reader should have to wait for that when a more direct expedient would be let the current Talk page fill up instead. My guess is that many readers would conclude that any Archive before the most recent Archive is irrelevant, when it is not. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 00:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I'm getting you now. Unfortunately, the bot was never designed to harvest pages periodically (with long periods like several months) but rather on an ongoing basis (in way, it's better suited for the more dynamic pages) with frequent runs.
That said, the best you can do now is probably restoring the last (small) archive to the talk page proper, delete said archive and disable the bot on that page (by commenting out its template) until a later date. Миша13 19:13, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I did a slight variation on the above, moving the contents of Archive 11 to Archive 10 (rather than back to the current Talk:Economics), thereby inluding all sections ending in May 2008 in Archive 10. I also Templated Talk:Economics/Archive 11 for speedy deletion and of course removed from Talk:Economics: {{User:MiszaBot/config |maxarchivesize = 250K |counter = 11 |algo = old(30d) |archive = Talk:Economics/Archive %(counter) }}
If I need to do anything else (or undo anything), please let me know. Again, thank you for your assistance. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 12:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks fine now. Миша13 16:11, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good. Besides high-frequency Talk pages such as you mentioned, I do think that MiszaBot is useful for "topping off" (iransitioning from) the latest Archive-&-existing-Talk-page to a "re-freshed" Talk page with the latest-edited sections staying longest on that Talk pate, just as happened with Talk:Economics over several months. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 14:48, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot III, wru?

Display date/time of next run

I just edited the code on Template talk:Film because it had never worked. It doesn't match your "common" errors as listed in the FAQ. I *think* I've fixed it, but I really can't be sure. Unfortunately, I have no idea how long it's going to take me to be "sure"! So, I'm wondering if it's possible to add same parameter that tells you when the next auto-run will begin! I figure this is much easier to implement than the option to run the bot manually, as requested by another user recently; it will just let us all know how long we have to wait... —Skittleys (talk) 07:46, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, you didn't only fix the missing counter parameter but also broke the entire template by compacting it into one line. Also, the bot runs on the same hour every day, if you just bothered to check its contributions... Миша13 10:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wut?

Archived to /dev/null? --MZMcBride (talk) 08:05, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See above. This happens when the config template is compressed into a single line. It requires a newline for each parameter. –xenocidic (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have some problem with Misza Bot III archieving my talk page. It doesn't work. Please help!

Favor

Hey Misza, I know that you are an admin, so can you do me this favor?: I want to move page, User:IMatthew/Sandbox4, to Armageddon (2006), since I've only used that sandbox for expanding the Armageddon article and I want the history to move with the information. That is no problem for me, but what I'm asking from you, is when I move it, can you delete the article, and then restore it with every edit in the history except the first two edits (because they were not part of the expansion, they were something different). Please reply, -- iMatthew T.C. 14:37, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Misza appears to be offline, I can help you with this if you like. An easier way to do it would be to delete, restore the revisions you want, move, then (if you want) restore the 2 revisions that don't relate to the article. –xenocidic (talk) 14:42, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you can help me.

I uploaded a copyrighted image of a corporate logo a while back, which you subsequently deleted, citing "no copyright tag." My situation is this: I work for the company and I have been authorized to upload the logo, even though I did not personally create it. Under what auspices would I be most successful in getting it and keeping it uploaded? How should I classify the image in the future when I attempt once more to upload it?

Wshiple (talk) 17:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Being authorized is one thing, but I dont know if you're fully aware of all the implications. Please see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for a rich selection thereof. Corporate logos probably must be uploaded as non-free and must follow all non-free content criteria for inclusion. Миша13 20:11, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incident archiving

Hello! I see MiszaBot just archived some incidents on the administrators' noticeboard, including one that was marked as still needing attention and to which no admins had yet responded. Is this correct? My understanding was that incidents are only archived after they're addressed, though I don't use the page enough to be sure. Thanks, Huwmanbeing  11:09, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is not intelligent and is unable to figure whether an issue has been addressed. As the bot's edit summary states, threads are archived when they get old enough (by means of the newest timestamp). Миша13 06:25, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
