Agenda and Notes from Meeting

[edit]

1. Introduction to meet up by organisers (if there are any newbies joining us)

2. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on

  • Jon (talk) - folks might be interested in a proposed move discussion to move Marineland of New Zealand; I think Transmission Gully Motorway has a lot of detail written during the lead-up to construction that's no longer current and could be summarised; possible new article candidates: Te Wao Nui (Wellington Children's Hospital), and Dorothy Spotswood; shout out to User:Kiwichris and User:Marshelec who got Walter Nash to Good Article status!
  • Marshelec has been the GA reviewer for the article: Walter Nash, about one of our former Prime Ministers. The review took a large amount of work, but was satisfying. Congratulations to User:Kiwichris for all the work in preparing this article and in responding to the review comments. Marshelec also completed another GA review in late March, of the article: Huntingdale railway station. Other work during the past month has included major improvements to International Antarctic Centre, smaller improvements to the articles Christina van Bohemen, Rangi Mātāmua, and some small contributions to articles linked to WikiProject New Zealand/Critter of the Week. During the month, Marshelec also supported the development of the WANZ 2023-24 grant application to WMF for a multi-year General Support Grant, and continued with WANZ committee and Treasurer work, including some policy development.
  • Stitchbird2 has been adding scientific papers, scientists and theses to Wikidata, linking these to Te Papa's agent ID (and adding the Wikidata Q numbers to Te Papa's database where relevant), and doing disambiguations where needed (so much fun!). My goal for the next month is to get back into writing Wikipedia pages to soon finish all NZ forget-me-not species Wikipedia pages and get back into regular Critter of the Week updates.
  • Wainuiomartian (talk) 22:16, 14 April 2023 (UTC) has expanded a stub for Mark Dunajtschik and continued working on Matiu / Somes Island. I don't think there's enough about Dorothy Spotswood to warrant a separate article.[reply]
  • Gertrude206 is working on a draft article on Chris Cree Brown, a spin off from Virginia King. Still working on an article on Green Lane Hospital. Also gardening.
  • Noracrentiss (talk) Sleuthing for first names Contributors to Transactions and Proceedings of the New Zealand Institute where only author's initial is given. Committee work also
  • Avocadobabygirl has been working with Giantflightlessbirds as Te Papa's Wikipedian in Residence, figuring out the museum's next Myosotis-style project, and prepping an internal 1Lib1Ref session

3. Progress on Action Points and future events

Don't forget to add your program to the Campaign Dashboard. The Dashboard is a key tracking tool for reporting back to Wikimedia Foundation and will help us ensure that we get funding in future years. If you are unsure how to add programs to the Campaign dashboard contact: Ambrosia10 (talk) on her talk page.
  • New Zealand Wikidata Thesis Project aims to get New Zealand dissertations into Wikidata. Project Page, Project Dashboard. There is a google spreadsheet of theses authors with Wikipedia pages who need their theses adding to their page if folk want to work on this during #1Lib1Ref.
New information: Video on how to add thesis to people's pages has been completed.
Project Contacts: DrThneed, Giantflightlessbirds and Ambrosia10
  • 1lib1ref coming up. See: [1]

5. Good Article / Featured Article Work Focus article is: Matiu / Somes Island

The article has been greatly improved by User:Wainuiomartian, with the most recent addition to the Geology and geography section. It is ready for GA nomination, although some further improvements to the geology section are planned.

6. Wiki News - add any news from the wider Wiki movement the group may be unaware of

7. Demonstration of a tool
