Proofread Japanese Wikimedia Commons

[edit]

Konnichiwa,

Could you please proofread the Japanese captions if the text is written correctly [1] ? Domo arigato. Gryffindor (talk) 20:09, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Gryffindor:, for the ceiling paintings I would translate 天井板絵 as "ceiling panel painting". The rest looks slick! Cheers Dr.khatmando (talk) 09:14, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Odagiri Dam

[edit]

Hi, someone has argued that Odagiri Dam is Otagiri Dam although I found local government sources use both. However they have added what appears to me like Original research as a "The origin of the name" section. Maybe someone with better Japanese than mine can look and see if they think the section is valid, or not, and on the name of the article. They have also added similar unsourced assertions and broken the image on the Japanese version as well here. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 16:42, 17 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @KylieTastic:, I had a look at some of the Japanese and English references from both the Japanese and English articles. There is evidence that both readings are used in written literature. I also checked the Japanese article for the location Otagiri, Nagano City, and "Otagiri" is the reading in hiragana. While both readings use correct syntax, a particular usage maybe common in a particular locality. Based on this I think "Otagiri" is probably correct. However I doubt wether the "Origin of the name" section you mentioned is necessary, and does present as original research. You could argue you this in the talk section of that article and delete it afterwards. I hope that helps Dr.khatmando (talk) 02:21, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I just moved it to Otagiri Dam. Neither seems prevalant so we might as well match the Japanese. LordAtlas (talk) 02:24, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kushiyaki

[edit]

I've split Kushiyaki into a new article, please check it for correctness.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 06:03, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your efforts on what was (and still is) a rather scrappy yakitori article. But if given a chance I would have voted against splitting this off, for the following reason. WP:en is an encyclopedia in English; it should therefore have articles on topics, with a very strong preference for the titles to be immediately understandable in English, unless they are genuinely obscure topics, with no obvious English term. (e.g. ashigaru) WP:en is not a handbook for learning Japanese terminology. If there really is no English term for Japanese skewer grills (how odd then, that I can talk about them in English!), and it was decided to have an article yakitori, since even Japanese native speakers happily eat non-chicken items under this general heading, then I think your text could be remerged into an improved article. After all, there is simply no logical reason to separate the English topic into two on the basis of facts about the Japanese language. Imaginatorium (talk) 08:59, 23 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
